The Frostspire Expanse dropped on Christmas Day and I’ve been grinding it nonstop. This The Forge Frostspire Expanse guide covers everything in Island 3: unlock requirements, new ores, the Ice Golem boss, and the gear you need to survive.
Fair warning: this island is brutal. I died 12 times in my first hour because I rushed in undergeared. Don’t make my mistake. The community calls this the “Frostspire wall” and most players hit it hard.
How to Unlock Frostspire Expanse
You need two things:
- Mining Level 70 - No shortcuts here
- Portal Tool - Buy from the shop for 50,000 coins
The Portal Tool is a one-time purchase. Once you have it, you can teleport between all three islands freely. Worth every coin.
If you’re not level 70 yet, grind Forgotten Kingdom. The XP there is solid and you’ll need the coins anyway.
Getting There
Once you meet the requirements:
- Open your inventory
- Equip the Portal Tool
- Click on Frostspire Expanse
- Spawn at the Winter Village
You’ll appear near Sensei Moro. Yes, he’s here too. Talk to him for the Island 3 questline.
New Ores
Frostspire Expanse introduces the best ores in the game. Here’s what you’re farming for:

Iceite is the best weapon ore. That 10.5x multiplier combined with the freeze trait makes it insane for combat. I’ve been farming it exclusively.
Etherealite is the best armor ore. The ghost trait lets you phase through attacks occasionally. Combined with the 11x multiplier, it’s endgame armor material.
Where to Find Each Ore
Snowite: Surface level caves near the village. Easy to access, decent spawn rate. Good for learning the island.
Iceite: Deep caves past the first enemy zone. Look for large blue crystal formations. Spawns are rarer but worth the hunt.
Lightite: Basalt vein areas (darker rock formations). Mixed in with other ores. The movement speed trait is underrated.
Etherealite: Floating crystal platforms in the deepest areas. Hardest to reach, hardest to mine. Bring your best pickaxe.
Required Gear
Don’t enter Frostspire Expanse without:
Minimum Pickaxe: Demonic Pickaxe (500,000 coins)
- Anything less and you can’t mine the new ores efficiently
- The Arcane Pickaxe (750,000 coins) is ideal
Recommended Armor: Spectral or Phantom set
- Craft from Forgotten Kingdom materials
- You need the defense to survive Crystal Spiders
Weapon: Anything with lifesteal trait
- Enemies hit hard here
- Lifesteal keeps you alive during extended mining runs
I tried entering with Mythril Pickaxe. Couldn’t break Iceite nodes. Wasted 30 minutes before going back to upgrade.
New Enemies
The enemies here don’t mess around.
Crystal Spiders
Fast, aggressive, spawn in groups. They’re the most common enemy and the most annoying.
How to fight them:
- Don’t let them surround you
- Dash through groups, don’t stand and fight
- Lifesteal weapons help sustain through multiple fights
Frost Orcs
Tanky, slow, hit like trucks. One heavy attack can chunk half your health.
How to fight them:
- Bait their heavy attack, then punish
- Don’t trade hits, you’ll lose
- Dash behind them for free damage
Ice Elementals
Ranged attackers that throw ice projectiles. Annoying when combined with melee enemies.
How to fight them:
- Priority target, kill first
- Close distance quickly
- Their projectiles are slow, easy to dodge
Ice Golem Boss
The Ice Golem is the Island 3 boss. I’ve killed it 8 times now. Here’s the strategy:
Phase 1 (100-50% HP)
- Basic slam attacks, easy to dodge
- Spawns ice spikes from the ground
- Stay mobile, don’t stand still
Phase 2 (50-0% HP)
- Faster attacks
- AoE frost nova (run away when he glows blue)
- Summons Crystal Spider adds
Tips
- Bring fire damage weapons if you have them
- The frost nova is the main killer, learn the tell
- Kill adds immediately, they overwhelm you fast
- Stock up on healing items before the fight
Rewards
- 50,000-100,000 coins
- Rare ore drops (including Etherealite)
- Chance at Ice Golem weapon blueprint
New NPCs
Several important NPCs in the Winter Village:
Sensei Moro: Questline for Island 3. Completing his quests unlocks the Ice Golem fight.
Bjorn: Sells Frostspire-specific pickaxes and gear. The Frostcore Pickaxe (350,000 coins) is available here.
Maria: Enhancer NPC. Same function as other islands but can enhance with new ores.
Greedy Cey: Buys ores at premium prices. Sell your excess Snowite here.

Completing the full questline gives you a unique title and 100,000 coins. Worth doing.
Best Farming Routes
After a week of testing, here are my routes:
Snowite Farm (Safe)
- Enter main cave from village
- Follow left wall
- Mine all Snowite nodes
- Exit and re-enter to reset spawns
- Repeat
Low risk, consistent returns. Good for building up resources.
Iceite Farm (Risky)
- Enter deep cave (past Crystal Spider zone)
- Clear enemies first
- Mine large crystal formations
- Watch for respawns
- Exit when inventory full
Higher risk but Iceite is worth it. Bring healing items.
Etherealite Farm (Endgame)
- Reach floating crystal platforms
- Clear Ice Elementals
- Mine floating crystals
- Use dash to navigate platforms
- Don’t fall (you’ll die)
Hardest farm but best rewards. Only attempt with maxed gear.
Crafting with New Ores
The new ores enable endgame crafting:
Best Weapon Recipe
10 Iceite + 5 Lightite + 5 Demonite
- High multiplier
- Freeze + burn traits
- Absolutely destroys enemies
Best Armor Recipe
10 Etherealite + 5 Obsidian + 5 Mythril
- Maximum defense
- Ghost trait for survivability
- Movement speed bonus
I’ve been running this setup for 3 days. Nothing else comes close.
Common Mistakes
Things I did wrong so you don’t have to:
- Entering undergeared - Minimum Demonic Pickaxe, seriously
- Fighting Crystal Spiders in groups - Kite them, don’t tank
- Ignoring the questline - Free 100k coins and unlocks boss
- Selling Iceite - Keep it for crafting, it’s too valuable
- Skipping Bjorn - His pickaxes are cheaper than other islands
Is It Worth Grinding?
Yes. Frostspire Expanse has the best ores, best gear, and best money in the game. If you’re level 70+, there’s no reason to stay in Forgotten Kingdom.
The difficulty spike is real though. Prepare before you go.
