I wasted probably 100 forge attempts before understanding how crafting actually works in The Forge. This The Forge crafting guide breaks down the mechanics, best recipes, and the mistakes that cost me hours of grinding.

The system looks simple but there’s real depth here. Ore count affects weapon type. Multipliers stack. Traits can make or break a build. Once you understand it, crafting becomes the most satisfying part of the game.

How Crafting Works

The basics:

  1. Go to the Forge building
  2. Select ores from your inventory
  3. Add ores to the crucible
  4. Click Forge
  5. Receive weapon or armor

Simple enough. But the details matter.

Ore Count = Weapon Type

The number of ores you add determines what weapon class you can craft:

More ores = bigger weapons = higher base damage. But bigger weapons are slower. Find the balance that fits your playstyle.

I run 10-ore Katanas. Fast enough to proc traits consistently, strong enough to kill efficiently.

Multiplier Calculation

Your weapon’s damage is calculated by:

Base Damage x Total Ore Multiplier = Final Damage

Each ore has a multiplier (shown in your inventory). Higher multiplier = stronger weapon. This is why S-tier ores like Iceite (10.5x) dominate.

Example:

  • 10 Iceite (10.5x each) = 105x total multiplier
  • 10 Iron (1.5x each) = 15x total multiplier

The Iceite weapon does 7x more damage. Ore quality matters more than ore quantity.

Trait System

Ores have traits that transfer to crafted items. Traits are the special effects:

  • Freeze (Iceite) - Stuns enemies
  • Burn (Demonite) - Damage over time
  • Explosion (Magmaite) - AoE damage
  • Critical (Rivalite) - Crit chance

You can stack multiple traits by using different ores. A weapon with Freeze + Burn + Crit is possible and devastating.

Quality Rolls

After forging, your item gets a quality roll:

Quality is random but influenced by:

  • Ore rarity (higher = better quality chance)
  • Luck stat (stack it)
  • Luck Totems (from codes)

I’ve forged maybe 500 items. Divine quality is rare. Legendary is the realistic goal.

Best Weapon Recipes

After extensive testing, these are the recipes I use:

Endgame DPS (Katana)

10 Iceite + 5 Demonite + 5 Rivalite

  • Freeze + Burn + Crit
  • 10.5x + 7.5x + 6.0x multipliers
  • Absolutely destroys everything

This is my main weapon. The freeze locks enemies down, burn ticks damage, and crits spike for huge numbers. Nothing survives.

Endgame AoE (Colossal Sword)

10 Magmaite + 5 Iceite + 5 Demonite

  • Explosion + Freeze + Burn
  • Clears groups instantly
  • Slower but massive damage

Use this for farming areas with lots of mobs. One swing hits everything.

Mid-Game Reliable (Sword)

7 Demonite + 3 Magmaite

  • Burn + Explosion
  • Accessible ores
  • Solid damage

Good stepping stone before you can farm Frostspire ores.

Budget Option (Dagger)

3 Rivalite + 2 Demonite

  • Crit + Burn
  • Fast attacks
  • Low ore cost

When you’re low on resources but need something functional.

Best Armor Recipes

Armor uses the same system but prioritizes defense and utility traits.

Endgame Survivability

10 Etherealite + 5 Lightite + 5 Obsidian

  • Ghost + Speed + Defense
  • 11x + 9x + 4.5x multipliers
  • Maximum survivability

The ghost trait from Etherealite is broken. Random damage immunity saves you constantly.

Endgame Aggressive

10 Lightite + 5 Demonite + 5 Darkryte

  • Speed + Counter-burn + Dodge
  • More offensive stats
  • Riskier but faster clears

For players who dodge well and want to move fast.

Mid-Game Tank

10 Obsidian + 5 Mythril + 5 Darkryte

  • Defense stacking
  • Dodge chance backup
  • Easy to farm

Reliable armor for Forgotten Kingdom content.

Crafting Minigames

Sometimes the forge triggers minigames that affect quality:

Timing Minigame

A bar fills up. Click when it’s in the green zone.

  • Perfect timing = quality boost
  • Miss = quality penalty
  • Practice makes perfect

Temperature Minigame

Keep the temperature in the optimal range by clicking.

  • Too hot = item breaks
  • Too cold = lower quality
  • Stay in the middle

Pattern Minigame

Repeat the pattern shown.

  • Correct = bonus
  • Wrong = penalty
  • Pay attention

I failed these constantly early on. Now they’re free quality boosts.

Trait Stacking Strategy

You can have multiple traits on one item. Here’s how to optimize:

Weapon Trait Priority

  1. Control (Freeze, Slow) - Keeps you alive
  2. Damage (Burn, Crit) - Kills faster
  3. Utility (Lifesteal) - Sustain

A weapon with Freeze + Burn + Crit covers all bases.

Armor Trait Priority

  1. Survival (Ghost, Dodge) - Don’t die
  2. Defense (Flat defense) - Take less damage
  3. Mobility (Speed) - Position better

Etherealite’s ghost trait is priority one. Everything else is secondary.

Trait Conflicts

Some traits don’t stack well:

  • Multiple defense traits have diminishing returns
  • Speed traits cap at certain values
  • Some traits override others

Test combinations before committing rare ores. The community has been testing this extensively and there’s a spreadsheet in the Discord with all confirmed trait interactions.

Common Crafting Mistakes

Things I did wrong:

Using Low-Tier Ores

I crafted 50+ weapons with Iron and Copper before realizing they’re worthless. The multiplier difference is massive. Save low-tier ores for selling.

Ignoring Traits

Early on I only looked at multipliers. A 10x multiplier ore with no trait loses to a 7x ore with Freeze. Traits matter.

Crafting Too Early

I burned through rare ores at level 20 making weapons I replaced at level 40. Wait until you have good ores AND good luck bonuses before serious crafting.

Not Using Luck Totems

Luck Totems from codes significantly improve quality rolls. I wasted dozens of Iceite before learning to pop totems first.

Overcomplicating Recipes

More ore types doesn’t always mean better. Sometimes 10 of one S-tier ore beats a mix of A-tier ores. Keep it simple.

Optimal Crafting Session

Here’s my crafting routine:

  1. Stack luck bonuses

    • Equip luck gear
    • Pop Luck Totem
    • Use luck race if available
  2. Prepare ores

    • Sort by multiplier
    • Plan recipes in advance
    • Have backup ores ready
  3. Craft in batches

    • Make 5-10 items per session
    • Compare results
    • Keep the best, sell the rest
  4. Don’t force it

    • Bad RNG happens
    • Take breaks
    • Come back with fresh totems

Which weapon type should you craft?

Daggers (3-5 ores)

Pros:

  • Fastest attack speed
  • Best trait proc rate
  • Low ore cost

Cons:

  • Lowest base damage
  • Short range
  • Need good positioning

Best for: Trait-focused builds, Freeze/Burn stacking

Swords/Katanas (6-9 ores)

Pros:

  • Balanced speed and damage
  • Good range
  • Versatile

Cons:

  • Master of none
  • Outclassed in specific situations

Best for: General use, most players

Greatswords/Hammers (10-14 ores)

Pros:

  • High base damage
  • Good range
  • Satisfying hits

Cons:

  • Slower attacks
  • Harder to dodge while attacking
  • More ore investment

Best for: Players who like big numbers

Colossal Weapons (15-20 ores)

Pros:

  • Massive damage
  • Huge range
  • AoE potential

Cons:

  • Very slow
  • Huge ore investment
  • Punishing if you miss

Best for: AoE farming, experienced players
