Roblox mobile is capped at 60 FPS by default, even on phones that support 120Hz. Your $1000 phone with a 120Hz screen is running Roblox at half its potential. I figured out how to fix this on both Android and iPhone.
The methods are different for each platform, and some require more setup than others. I'll cover everything from the easy settings tweaks to the Brevent app method for Android.
Does Your Phone Support 120 FPS?
Not every phone can run 120 FPS. You need:
Hardware requirements:
- 120Hz display (or higher)
- Recent processor (Snapdragon 8 series, A14 or newer, etc.)
- Enough RAM (6GB minimum, 8GB+ recommended)
Phones that support 120Hz:
| Brand | Models |
|---|---|
| Samsung | S21 and newer, A54, A74 |
| iPhone | 13 Pro and newer (ProMotion) |
| OnePlus | 9 and newer |
| Xiaomi | 12 and newer |
| Pixel 6 Pro and newer | |
| ASUS ROG | All ROG phones |
| Red Magic | All gaming phones |
If your phone has a 60Hz screen, you're stuck at 60 FPS max. No workaround exists.
iPhone Method (Easy)
iPhones with ProMotion displays (13 Pro, 14 Pro, 15 Pro, 16 Pro) can run Roblox at 120 FPS with a simple settings change.
- Open Settings on your iPhone
- Go to Accessibility
- Tap Motion
- Turn OFF Limit Frame Rate
- Open Roblox and check FPS
That's it. Roblox should now run at up to 120 FPS on supported games.
If it's still 60 FPS:
- Some games cap their own frame rate
- Check in-game graphics settings
- Make sure Low Power Mode is off
iPhone limitations:
- Only Pro models have 120Hz screens
- Regular iPhone 13/14/15/16 are 60Hz only
- Battery drains faster at 120 FPS
Samsung Method
Samsung phones have a game optimization feature that can limit FPS. Here's how to enable 120 FPS:
- Open Settings
- Go to Display
- Tap Motion Smoothness
- Select Adaptive or High (120Hz)
Then configure Game Booster:
- Open Game Launcher (comes pre-installed)
- Find Roblox in your games
- Tap the three dots > Game Booster
- Set Performance Mode to Performance or High
- Make sure FPS isn't limited
Samsung-specific settings:
Some Samsung phones have additional options:
- Game Plugins app > Priority Mode
- Good Lock app > Game Booster Lab
These give more control over per-game performance settings.
Android Brevent Method (Advanced)
Brevent is an app that forces games to run at your phone's max refresh rate. It works on most Android phones but requires some setup.
What you need:
- Android phone with 120Hz+ display
- ADB access (USB debugging)
- Brevent app from Play Store
Setup steps:
-
Enable Developer Options:
- Go to Settings > About Phone
- Tap "Build Number" 7 times
- Developer Options now appears in Settings
-
Enable USB Debugging:
- Settings > Developer Options
- Turn on USB Debugging
-
Install Brevent:
- Download from Play Store
- Open the app
- It will ask for ADB permissions
-
Connect to PC (one time):
- Connect phone to PC via USB
- Open command prompt/terminal
- Run:
adb devices(confirm your phone appears) - Run:
adb shell sh /data/data/me.piebridge.brevent/brevent.sh
-
Configure Brevent:
- Open Brevent app
- Find Roblox in the app list
- Add it to the "Standby" exception list
- This prevents Android from throttling Roblox
-
Set refresh rate:
- Some Brevent versions have FPS settings
- Otherwise, use your phone's display settings
After setup:
- Brevent runs in background
- Roblox should hit 120 FPS
- You don't need to reconnect to PC unless you restart phone
Brevent alternatives:
- Scene - Similar app, Chinese interface
- Game Booster apps - Varies by phone brand
In-Game Settings for Best FPS
Even with 120Hz enabled, wrong in-game settings tank performance.
Optimal Roblox mobile settings:
- Open any Roblox game
- Tap the Roblox menu (top left)
- Go to Settings
- Set Graphics Mode to Manual
- Lower Graphics Quality to 1-3
- Turn off Shadows if available
Lower graphics = higher FPS. A phone running max graphics at 40 FPS will hit 120 FPS on low settings.
Games That Support 120 FPS
Not all Roblox games support high frame rates. Some are capped by the developer.
Games confirmed to support 120 FPS:
- Blox Fruits
- The Strongest Battlegrounds
- Rivals
- Jailbreak
- Arsenal
- Phantom Forces
- Murder Mystery 2
Games often capped at 60:
- Some older games
- Games with heavy scripts
- Some games have poor performance (heavy scripts, unoptimized code)
If a game feels capped even with 120Hz enabled, it's a game-side limit, not your phone.
Battery and Heat Concerns
120 FPS uses more power and generates more heat than 60 FPS.
Battery impact:
- Expect 30-50% faster battery drain
- A 2-hour session at 60 FPS becomes ~1.5 hours at 120 FPS
Heat management:
- Phones throttle when hot
- Remove your case while gaming
- Don't play while charging
- Take breaks if phone gets warm
Tips for longer sessions:
- Use a phone cooler/fan attachment
- Play in air-conditioned room
- Lower brightness
- Close background apps
Troubleshooting
Still stuck at 60 FPS
- Confirm your phone has 120Hz display
- Check display settings are set to 120Hz
- Disable battery saver mode
- Make sure game isn't capped
FPS drops during gameplay
- Phone is thermal throttling (too hot)
- Too many background apps
- Graphics settings too high
- Game server lag (not your phone)
Brevent stopped working
- Reconnect to PC and run the ADB command again
- This happens after phone restarts
- Some phones need this after every reboot
Game looks choppy at 120 FPS
- Frame pacing issues
- Try locking to 90 FPS instead
- Some games have inconsistent frame delivery
FPS Counter
To verify you're actually getting 120 FPS:
Samsung:
- Game Booster has built-in FPS counter
- Enable in Game Booster settings
Other Android:
- Developer Options > Show refresh rate
- Or use third-party apps like "FPS Meter"
iPhone:
- No built-in option
- Third-party apps exist but limited
Is 120 FPS Worth It?
Depends on what you play.
Worth it for:
- Competitive games (Rivals, Arsenal, Phantom Forces)
- Fast-paced combat (Blox Fruits PvP, TSB)
- Any game where reaction time matters
Not worth it for:
- Idle/incremental games
- Roleplay games
- Anything turn-based
The visual difference is noticeable. Once you play at 120 FPS, 60 FPS feels sluggish. But the battery trade-off is real.
90 FPS Alternative
Some phones support 90Hz as a middle ground:
- Better than 60 FPS
- Less battery drain than 120 FPS
- Smoother than you'd expect
If 120 FPS kills your battery too fast, try 90Hz mode. Many phones have this option in display settings.
